Sure, new cars are shiny, and they have that great smell. You know no one else has been in it or done anything weird to it. But, buying a used car has tons of benefits, and depending on your budget and needs, it might just be the best option for you.

First of all, look into certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles! CPO programs basically let you buy a vehicle that's almost like new for a fraction of the price. To get certified, cars go through a rigorous inspection process and have to meet a boatload of requirements.

You don't have to get a CPO car to benefit from buying used, though. Non-certified dealership used cars--from the last five years or so--are well past the bulk of their depreciation, which means you pay a lot less and you'll get a bigger return on your investment if you sell it later on.

Older cars mean lower monthly payments and lower car insurance, so you're paying less across the board. Plus, if you buy used, then you can probably afford a slightly older version of that car you're in love with, but thought was out of your price range!
